At NBAA-BACE 2024 in Las Vegas, AAM executives from companies like Lilium, Beta Technologies, Electra, Atlantic Aviation, and Signature Aviation shared insights on advancing electric and hybrid-electric aircraft operations. The panel focused on early-stage operations, infrastructure needs, regulatory challenges, and scaling production to support commercial viability.
Lilium’s CCO, Sebastien Borel, detailed plans to integrate AAM aircraft into established helicopter and private jet routes, leveraging existing FBO and airport infrastructure. Similarly, Kyle Clark, CEO of Beta Technologies, highlighted Beta’s efforts to build a U.S. charging network, aiming to have over 100 chargers across 61 airports by year-end to support AAM’s growth.
Executives also discussed regulatory reform essential for point-to-point air travel, emphasizing the need to adapt policies to support underutilized regional airports and address noise concerns. Both Beta Technologies and Signature Aviation stressed the importance of scalable infrastructure to meet projected AAM demand, including electric and hydrogen-based charging options.
As AAM technologies mature, airports and airport service providers should be preparing to seamlessly integrate the technologies into general aviation infrastructure, setting a foundation for sustainable and efficient air mobility within each airports community.
